Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Hebrews 12:1 KJV
We often hear a lot about sin, but we rarely hear about weight. Leaders must constantly be aware of weights because they work against progress. They could present as negative thoughts, poor perceptions or unfruitful relationships.
It is essential, as a leader, to understand that there will always be times when the people who accompanied you to your maturity may not be able to accompany you to your destiny. Seasons bring change. As a servant of Christ, the understanding that some relationships are seasonal will be crucial to success in life.
Take inventory of the people around you this week and place them in categories. Some traumatic relationships from the past should be shredded as they serve no further purpose to your future and simply take up space. Some unfruitful relationships should be archived as they are not essential for your ability to function at this present time, but may be needed in the future for a reference point. The remainder should be filed and prioritized in order to facilitate the purpose that God has in your life.
In these files, you’ll find enemies, associates & friends.
Enemies are individuals that are focused on your destruction and enslavement to tribulation. They will constantly seek to create environments and conversations for your entanglement. They will question your purpose or direction and seek to move you to a place of doubt and apprehension concerning God and His leaders. Give them no access.
Associates are individuals that you meet and are cordial to. They have not positioned themselves against you, but do not add value to you. They will float between loyalties and alliances without overtly opposing your purpose. They obey God and His leaders with prejudice and often an ulterior motive. Give them limited access.
Friends are those people who love at all times. They believe in you when you don’t. Your heart will safely trust in them and they are born for your time of adversity. They will push you to destiny asking nothing in return. They will keep you connected with God and His leaders while maintaining an unfeigned reverence to the God in you at all times. Give them full access.
God sends the relationships we need to push us to divine purpose. Be spiritually alert in this season of growth so that nothing will hinder you. We pray that you walk in harmony with the Spirit of God so that your harvest will be plentiful as we approach and take full possession of the Promises of God.
